Overblown

Overblown

A slightly irreverent take on the typical still life, I was inspired by the curlicues and other interesting shapes these cut tulips took on over time (perhaps after tidier, more on-top-of-things people would have thrown them away). I placed them in my favorite sunny window and they took on a glow. Capturing light is one of my favorite challenges in watercolor.

“Overblown” is a reminder that beauty and interest exist in all stages of life.

The Process

I enjoy making videos from the progress photos I’ve taken. I usually snap a photo at the end of every day, or after a lengthy work session. It helps me continue on when I can see how far I’ve come. It helps others see the order in which I paint, and the layering involved.
