In 2021, the Spirit of Hope Parish established an All Souls Day tradition, holding a special Mass to memorialize the dead at the historic St. Mary’s of the Irish Ridge. I was taken in and inspired by the beautiful setting, the glow of candles placed throughout the cemetery, the warmth of the light emanating from the windows of the overflowing church, and the large number of people who gathered at this tiny church in the countryside.
I gifted the original painting to the priests of Spirit of Hope Parish, and prints have been sold as a fundraiser to help with upkeep of the cemetery.
